- Relative clause is a kind of subordinate clause that contains an element whose interpretation is provided by an antecedent on which the subordinate clause is grammatically dependent; that is, there is an anaphoric relation between the relativized element in the relative clause, and the antecedent on which it depends.
Example :
He is the man who works hard to
support their daily needs.
Subordinate clause : Man.
Relative clause : Who works hard to
support their daily needs.
- 2 Conditional sentences are sentences expressing factual implications, or hypothetical situations and their consequences.
Type of conditional sentences :
a. Implicative
conditional sentence ( Factual )
Example :
If you heat water to 100
degrees, it boils.
If the sea is stormy, the waves are
high.
If the sun shines, the sky
is light.
If the rain comes, it
floods.
If she locked the door, her
cat is trapped inside.
b.
Predictive
conditional sentence (Entirely Possible)
Example :
If I become a president, I will build
charity houses.
If you see him, shoot !
What will you do if she
invites you ?
If I found his address, I
would send him an invitation.
If I become a dancer, I
will buildmy own stage.
c. Counterfactual
sentence ( Impossible )
Example :
If I were a queen, I could
have you thrown in the dungeon.
If she said that to him, he
would run away.
If you had called her, she
would have come.
If he had done his job
properly, he wouldn’t be in this mess now.
If I won lottery, I would
buy a castle.
